Google’s new Gmail phone-calling service racked up 1 million calls from users in its first 24 hours of release. Gmail calling potentially challenges Skype and Facebook. – Skype and Facebook could have a substantial new competitor

Google unveiled a Gmail phone-calling application Aug. 25, but is mum on when the service will expand offshore. Scanfest 2010 continues with by far the most interesting find from our archive yet. Yes, even more interesting than the FA Cup Final programmes from 1986 and 1989. First published in 1978, and costing a princely sum of 1.25, this was possibly our favourite book when we were five years old. AT&T is now extending voice-over-IP services to enterprise VPN customers. The carrier’s VOIP portfolio is designed to be compatible with various IP-PBX systems, including Microsoft’s. – Customers of AT amp;T’s VPN can now take advantage of voice-over-IP services
