Skype shuttered its Skype Extras third-party application development program due to lack of interest in the applications programmers created. The Skype Shop Extras Website claims the program includes dozens of applications, which programmers submit to the Skype Shop for users to use for free or for purchase. The move is yet another sign of the changes Skype is undergoing as it seeks to become more nimble.

News Analysis: Why would Google want to acquire Skype when it already has a VOIP application? The fact is, Google Voice and Skype are not yet direct competitors, but Google is enriching its application and could put it on a collision course with Skype. Google Voice could be linked with Google Talk to approximate Skype’s PC calling services. Google also offers video chat via Gmail, which could theoretically be added to any VOIP platform Google was considering.

York Times reported that Google was one of the losing bidders bested by

In precisely the kind of channel-hopping stunt that we absolutely love, Darren No, I Think Youll Find Its Derren Brown is going to appear simultaneously on Channel Four, Film4, E4, More4, 4Music and 4-Tel (one of those is a lie) at 10.30pm on Wednesday (or, by the time you read this, tonight). But wait, thats not the remarkable thing (even though it is kind of remarkable). When hes live on air he has vowed to predict the numbers of the Midweek Lottery draw, broadcast live on BBC One five minutes later. So, guessing (sorry, predicting) which six numbers will be drawn, before theyre drawn.
